1. Overview
SOS Alert is a personal safety app for Android. When you start an SOS it can text and call the emergency contacts you chose, put your location in the text, and take photos and a short audio recording. This policy covers the app, the SOS Alert server it talks to, and this website. It explains what is collected, where it goes, who can see it, how long it is kept and how to delete it.
For privacy questions and requests, and for complaints about how your data is handled, write to SOSAlert@techconqueror.com.
2. What happens when you start an SOS
- You hold the SOS control for 3 seconds. Letting go early starts nothing. (Screen-reader users have an “Activate SOS” action instead of the hold; it also leads to the countdown.)
- A full-screen countdown of 5 seconds appears with a Cancel button. While it runs the phone may read your location so the alert can include it. That position stays in the app’s memory on the phone. Nothing is texted, called, captured or uploaded yet.
- If you cancel, leave the app or lock the phone during the countdown, the pending SOS is dropped and the position held for it is discarded.
- When the countdown reaches zero the SOS starts: the phone texts your switched-on contacts, then calls them one after another, and takes the photos and audio you have switched on.
- In the background, the app registers the SOS with our server and uploads the photos and audio. When they are uploaded it sends your contacts a second text with a link to each file. If the phone is offline this is retried, but not for an SOS older than 24 hours.
The first text and the calls never wait for the upload. The app cannot know whether a text arrived or a call was answered; it reports a text as “submitted for sending” and a call as “started”.
3. Information we collect
What is collected depends on the actions you switch on. This table covers the app and the server.
| Data | Where it is kept | Why | Who else receives it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name, email address, your phone number, password (stored only as a one-way hash) | Our server; name, email and number also on your phone | To create and secure your account; your name appears in the follow-up text | Your contacts see your name in texts. Our email provider handles your address to send codes |
| Sign-in session (the app’s sign-in is kept in the phone’s secure keystore; the server keeps only a hash of it) | Phone and our server | To keep you signed in, for up to 90 days after last use | None |
| Emergency contacts: name, phone number, relationship, on/off (up to 5) | Your phone and our server | To know whom to text and call | The contacts themselves, and your mobile carrier |
| SOS records: type, time, message text, what happened at each step, your position | Your phone (History, not encrypted). Our server holds the type, time and the position if the alert had one | To show you what happened and to attach your photos and audio to the right SOS | The position goes in the text to your contacts |
| Photos (rear and front camera) and an audio recording | Your phone, and our server and storage provider once uploaded | To give your contacts evidence of the situation | Anyone who has the link, our storage provider (Cloudinary) |
| Settings, message templates, emergency-service numbers | Your phone only | To run the app your way | None |
| One-time codes (hashed), email-send log, sign-in attempts, request counters that include your IP address | Our server, for minutes to a day | Security and abuse prevention | Our email provider, for codes |
| Messages sent through the support form: name, email, issue type, message | Our server and the team’s support inbox | To answer you | Our email provider |
We do not collect advertising identifiers, device identifiers or crash reports, and the app has no analytics. Our API logs record the request, its result and your account id, not message text, positions or file links. The web server and proxy in front of the API may record the IP address and time of a request for security; those records are kept for a limited period and then discarded.
4. How we use information
To provide the features you ask for, to secure accounts, to prevent abuse, and to answer support requests. We do not use personal data for advertising and we do not sell it.
5. Location
With your permission the app reads your precise position when an SOS is being prepared (during the countdown) and when the SOS starts, using Google Play services on Android. It does not track you in the background. If a position cannot be found, the alert is still sent and says so; the app never sends an old or estimated position.
The position goes into the text to your contacts as coordinates and a Google Maps link, is saved in your SOS history on the phone, and may be stored with the SOS record on our server. If you cancel during the countdown, the position that was read for it is discarded, and nothing about it is uploaded, texted or shared. A contact who opens the Maps link is using Google Maps under Google’s own terms.
6. Photos, audio and links sent to your contacts
If the photo and audio actions are switched on (they are by default) the app takes a photo with each camera and records a short audio clip when an SOS you confirmed starts. A notification shows while the camera and microphone are in use. The files are first stored in the app’s private storage on your phone; the newest 10 SOS keep their files there.
Because the app requires an account, the files are then uploaded to our server and stored with our storage provider (Cloudinary) as private files. The app texts each of your contacts a second message with a link to each file. Anyone who has a link can open that file without signing in, until the link expires or the file is deleted. Links expire after 7 days. Do not forward a link to people you do not trust.
To stop photos and audio being captured, and therefore uploaded, switch those actions off in the app’s SOS settings.
Deleting “photos and audio” for an SOS in the app removes the files from your phone only. To remove them from our server, delete your account (see “Account deletion”) or contact us.
7. Emergency contacts, and if someone listed you
You enter your contacts’ names and numbers. Only contacts you switch on receive alerts. Please make sure each person has agreed to be your contact. When you are signed in, contacts are stored on our server so they can be restored on a new phone.
If someone listed you as an emergency contact: when they start an SOS you receive a text, possibly a call, and later a text with links to photos or audio. We store your name and number as they entered them and use them only for that. To ask for your details to be removed, ask the person who added you, or contact us at SOSAlert@techconqueror.com.
8. Device permissions
The app can ask for these Android permissions. It explains each before the system asks, and never asks in the middle of an SOS.
- Location: to put your position in the alert.
- SMS: to text your contacts directly.
- Phone: to call your contacts one after another, and to know whether a call is still in progress so the next one is not dialled over it. No call log or phone number is read.
- Camera and microphone: for the SOS photos and audio.
- Notifications: to show the notice while the camera and microphone are in use. Capture still runs if you refuse.
You can refuse any of them; the matching action is then unavailable. Change them in the app under Setup, then Permissions, or in Android Settings, Apps, SOS Alert, Permissions.
9. Storage and security
Passwords are stored only as Argon2id hashes. The API requires HTTPS, limits repeated sign-in and code attempts, and checks every request against the signed-in account. Uploaded files are private in storage and are served only through links our server made. On the phone, the app’s data is excluded from Android cloud backup and phone-to-phone transfer, and the screen is protected from screenshots and screen recording. Not in place: the SOS history on the phone is not encrypted, and there is no app lock. No system is perfectly secure, and a link that is shared further can be opened by whoever has it.
10. Who we share data with
Your emergency contacts receive the texts, calls and links you trigger. Your mobile carrier handles texts and calls. We do not share personal data with advertisers or data brokers. Providers that process data for us:
- Photo and audio storage: Cloudinary.
- Email delivery (sign-in and deletion codes, security notices, support replies): SMTP2GO.
- Servers, database (MongoDB) and web hosting: our hosting provider, which runs them for us.
Google receives data too: Google Play services supplies the location on the phone, and Google Maps is used by a contact who opens the map link. This website loads its fonts from Google Fonts. We disclose data to a court, police or another authority only where the law requires it, and only what the request legally covers. Where the law allows, we tell the person concerned.
11. How long data is kept
- Account, contacts: until you delete them or your account.
- SOS records and uploaded photos and audio on our server: until you delete your account, or until the server’s scheduled cleanup removes them once they are older than 30 days.
- Sign-in sessions: up to 90 days after last use.
- One-time codes, sign-in attempts, request counters: minutes to a day.
- Support messages: 365 days, then removed automatically. They are not part of your account and are not removed when you delete it. To have one removed sooner, write to SOSAlert@techconqueror.com.
- On your phone: until you delete them or remove the app. Deleting your account in the app also clears the SOS history, photos and audio on that phone.
- Backups: our hosting provider may keep routine backups of the database for a limited period. Data you deleted can remain in a backup until it is overwritten in the normal cycle. We do not restore a deleted account from a backup.
12. Deleting your account and data
In the app: Account, then Delete account, and enter your password. On this website: use the account deletion page; we email a code to the address on the account, valid for 5 minutes.
Deletion removes your profile, emergency contacts, sign-ins, SOS records and the uploaded photos and audio (including from our storage provider), and makes every link already sent stop working. It cannot be undone. If the file storage cannot be reached, the account is kept so you can try again. What remains: support messages until their retention period ends, short-lived security records, texts already sent to your contacts, and any backups.
13. This website
The website sets no cookies and has no analytics or advertising. Its pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google when you visit. The web server may log your IP address and the time of each request for security, and discards those logs after a limited period. If you use the support form or the deletion form, what you type is sent to our API as described above.
14. Your rights
You can view and change your profile and contacts in the app, and delete your account as described. You may also ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to erase it, or to withdraw a consent you gave. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you have the right to access information about your personal data, to have it corrected and erased, to have your grievance answered, and to nominate another person to exercise these rights for you if you die or cannot act. Using the app does not waive any right. Write to SOSAlert@techconqueror.com or use the support page; choose “Privacy Request” as the issue. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India after using this route. People in other countries have the rights that their own law gives them, and we will handle those requests in the same way.
15. Children’s privacy
SOS Alert is for adults. It is not directed at children under 18, and you must be 18 or older to create an account. If you believe a child has given us personal data, write to SOSAlert@techconqueror.com and we will delete it.
16. Changes to this policy
We will update the date at the top of this page when the policy changes and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email. This version is effective from 12 October 2026.
